Scrapbooking and crafting brings with it so many pleasures "time out" to yourself to get creative, the need to "have" to go shopping, a way to capture and treasure special moments and feelings forever and most of all meeting great people.... So I have had a chat with Alison Done also known as allycat in GoGo land.
How long have you been Scrapping?
I was reading magazines and buying stash for a couple of years before I finally plucked up the courage to do a LO - I did that first LO in 2006, so 5 years of ‘actual’ scrapping!
How long have you been subscribing to ScrapaGoGo kits?
My first kit was March 2008 – I remember being so excited at receiving my first club kit, I used it up quite quickly – I wish I had as much time now as I did then to scrap!!! My kits are starting to back up!
Have you had any kit “breaks” and if so why?
I had one kit break for August 2010 as it was full of oranges & pinks and even though I was pregnant with my daughter at the time, I just couldn’t bring myself to have it as that much Pink was way outside my comfort zone! But when GoGo had a sale at the end of last year, I bought it and have been using it recently. It hasn’t been so bad scrapping with pink after all! lol
What is your favourite element of the kit?
To be honest, it varies with each kit, some months I love the Stamp more than the kit itself as so many of them have so many uses, although I do like the Design Cards from Sam.
What has been your best kit?
Best kit has to be the October 2010 kit which was full of the gorgeous Cosmo Cricket range Pixielicious – I bought the full Create kit, stamp & Go2Pieces AND the Greetings kit. Then I bought the other papers & elements that weren’t in the GoGo kits. I’ve done a few LOs but still have loads of it left! It is just the most perfect kit to scrap about my (then) newborn daughter.
Do you prefer to Scrap Black and white or colour photo’s?
I mostly scrap colour photos – occasionally I modify photos using Photoshop Elements to sepia or B&W but more often than not, I use the software to print different sized photos.
Could you share 3 of your favourite LO’s and tell us why you like them?
First would have to be ‘Puss in Pots’ – it’s showing my very naughty but very cute kitten Mickey lying in one of his favourite places – plant pots! Sadly Mickey is no longer with us but I loved this LO so much I submitted it to Scrapbook Trends – I was gobsmacked when I bought the magazine from ScrapaGoGo at a GoGoGetaway & opened it to discover it had been published – in fact I squealed loud enough for the whole room to go quiet!
I love the LO I used for the start of the first Chinese Whispers CJ that Rebekah organized. When I saw the original LO, I instantly knew which photos I would use once I had permission to lift. ‘I had a dream’ is about me having a dream when I was pregnant with my son of a little boy looking out of a window then turning to smile at me. Then lo and behold, he did just that one day & I got photos too!!!
‘Introducing Madison’ was the first LO I created with the October 2010 I mentioned earlier – I wanted the first LO of my daughter to be special and I feel this one is – I used a range of papers I loved, it included a touch of purple (my favourite colour!) and no matter how corny this sounds, it was created with love!
Do you have your own space at home to Scrap?
I’m very lucky to have my own room – with a huge 2.5 metre long desk but I still work in a small space – too much stash & not enough time to scrap, never mind tidy up!!!
What are your best times of the day to Scrap?
Before my 1 year old came along, I would scrap all day long but nowadays, I tend to scrap on the go – I have a kit out, a LO in progress, I’ll go and do a bit every now & then – sometimes, a LO will take a day other times, a week – it all depends on how much time I have from day to day.
What’s in your Tote bag at the moment?
I don’t use a tote bag – I store all my kits in 12x12 bags & for my tools I have a Carousel – which I just pick up and take as it is to my monthly crop! Although I do have several tote bags that get used to carry kits, inspirations, stamps, ink pads, etc to the crop each month!
Do you attend any Crops? If so where?
I go to a fantastic crop at the beginning of each month, just 10 mins drive away from me. Everyone is so friendly, we do a lot of chatting, have lots of laughs and sometimes we actually do some scrapping!
What projects are you working on at the moment?
I’m trying to finish up the August 2010 kit as well as work on some Art Journalling that I’ve become interested in recently. And of course, due to the time of year, Christmas cards!!!
Wow Ally you are a busy bee... thank you so much for sparing your time with us and I know that everyone will agree that those LO's are beautiful. More of Ally's adventures can be found @ witzendtales.blogspot.com after all that chatter and inspiration I am now off to go and have a little "me" time, crafting.
See you all soon,
